I listened to an audio story from This American Life called “The Greatest Moment I ever Saw on a Stage”, the last act of the 20 acts in 60 minutes segment.

It is about young women from a juvenile hall center putting on a play for their mothers and grandmothers. Overall, the story is incredibly heartwarming. What made it impactful was what the journalist decided to highlight. He starts off being very specific about the situation by giving background of who is involved and what is happening. The audio of him speaking is clear and there is no background noise when he speaks He paints a picture by describing where he is and giving the perspective on what it is to be a parent sitting and waiting for their child to perform. He then describes what the play is about and in the background, audio from the performance starts playing as he is talking. It gets loud in between his sentences and gets lower when he begins speaking again. The audio then cuts to another part of the play and he describes what the young women do and then lets the audio of the performance speak for itself. The journalist talked for most of the story, but he let the audio of the performance highlight the importance and impact of theater. The sound being original made the story a lot more impactful and easier to imagine being there.
